    How much baggage can I check-in on SpiceJet flights?

    SpiceJet allows free checked baggage allowance of 15 kgs per passenger for all domestic bookings, from EX-IXJ and SXR free checked in baggage allowance is 22kgs per passenger per flight. SpiceJet does not accept responsibility for unsuitably packed, perishable, damaged or fragile baggage or for minor damage to the exterior of baggage (e.g. scratches, stains, soling, dents) resulting from normal wear and tear or for water damage to non-waterproof baggage.

    Due to airport security regulations, no cabin baggage is allowed on any flights originating from Jammu and Srinagar airports.

    For Hand Baggage Only Fare no free check-in baggage allowance shall be permissible. Passengers who purchase this fare but have check-in baggage will be charged Fare Type Change Fee of Rs. 400.

    For flights originating from Jammu and Srinagar, hand-baggage is not permitted on board. Passengers are allowed to check-in seven (07) kg. of check-in baggage, free of cost; beyond which such weight, the above mentioned Fare Type Change Fee of INR 400/- (Rupees four hundred only) shall be chargeable to the passenger.

    How much hand baggage can I carry in cabin on SpiceJet flights?

    Cabin baggage of maximum 7 kg (which would include Laptop and duty free shopping bags) having maximum overall dimensions of: 115 cms. (L+W+H) on Boeing flights and 108 cms. (L+W+H) on Bombardier flights, is allowed to be carried per passenger, free of cost. Passengers with infants are allowed to carry an additional piece of hand baggage of maximum 7 kg., not exceeding the size dimensions, as mentioned hereinbefore Due to airport security regulations, no cabin baggage is allowed on flights originating from Jammu or Srinagar airports.

    What are the Excess Baggage charges?

    Passenger(s) carrying more than the baggage allowance i.e 15 kgs. will be charged at rate of INR 100 per kg (inclusive of service tax and cess, if applicable) for first 5 kgs. and INR 300/kg for baggage over and above 5 kgs. for domestic travel only (effective from 1st July, 2016).

    With upgraded security on aircraft what items am I not permitted to carry onboard the aircraft?

    For safety reasons, dangerous articles, such as those listed below, must not be carried in passenger's baggage.

    • Compressed gasses: deeply refrigerated, flammable non-flammable and poisonous such as butane oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders and compressed gas cylinders.
    • Corrosives such as acids, alkalis, mercury and wet cell batteries and apparatus containing mercury
    • Explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares, ammunition including blank cartridges handguns, fire works, pistol caps.
    • Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter refills, lighter fuel, matches, paints, thinners, fire-lighters, lighters that need inverting before ignition, matches (these may be carried on the person), radio active material, Briefcases and attaché case with installed alarm devices. Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder and peroxides.
    • Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials. Other dangerous articles such as magnetized materials, offensive or irritating materials.
    • Carriage of dry cell batteries, knives, scissors, sharp instruments, tools, firearms, ammunitions, and toy replicas are prohibited in the Passenger cabin.

    Can I check-in for my onward flight at the point of departure and reclaim my checked-in baggage at the end of the entire journey?

    No, SpiceJet does not offer the facility of through check-in for onward connections with SpiceJet or other carriers. SpiceJet operates only point to point service and our passengers will have to check-in separately for other flights. We don’t take responsibility for any inconvenience associated with missed connections to or from other carriers. Our passengers need to check-in separately for any other carrier connecting flights.     When and how do I check-in?

    Airport check-in counters will open two hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Passengers are encouraged to report at the Airport between 1-2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Check-in counters for all our flights will close 45 minutes prior to departure. SpiceJet will not be able to accept any passenger reporting after the counters are closed. Any passenger reporting after the stipulated counter closing time will be treated as a "no-show" and will not be entitled to any refund against their one-way fare paid.

    Can I reserve seats when I check-in?

    SpiceJet offers assigned seating at our airport check-in counters. For preferential seating, SpiceJet offers advanced seat assignment at the time of booking or after booking by paying an additional fee. In additional, passenger can also select seats at the time of web check-in with or without any charge. In case of exigencies, SpiceJet reserves the right to change an assigned seat without any prior notice. In such a case, the seat fee will be refunded.

    What should I do if my baggage has been lost during my flight with SpiceJet? Am I entitled to compensation?

    Hopefully this won’t happen but if it should please notify one of our Passenger Services Officers immediately and they’ll complete a Baggage Irregularity Report. We will endeavor to quickly locate and expedite it to you. If we can’t find it in seven (7) days we’ll provide lost baggage compensation in the amount of Rs 200 per Kg up to a maximum limit of Rs 3000.

    What is the maximum size allowed for my one piece of cabin baggage?

    A small hand baggage not exceeding 55cm + 35cm + 25cm (total 115 cm) on Boeing flights and 50cm+35cm+23cm totaling 108cms (42.5 inches) on Bombardier flights. In addition, it may not exceed 7 Kg.

    How much baggage can I check-in if I have connecting international flight?

    1. Passenger travelling on SpiceJet domestic sector to SpiceJet international sector or vice versa the Free Baggage Allowance of International sector will be applicable within 24hrs of its flight departure to any domestic sector after landing in India.
    2. Passenger travelling on SpiceJet domestic Sector and having connection on another airline to/from an international destination, are allowed Free Baggage Allowance of 15 Kgs per passenger per flight. (W.e.f 4th Nov,2014)

    Can I bring my weapons/Ammunitions?

    Yes. A fee of 5000INR per sector is to be paid for carrying weapons/ammunitions. Each passenger is allowed to carry one licensed fire arm (revolver, pistol, rifle) and not more than 50 live cartridges or as mentioned in Passenger’s license whichever is less.

    Who all will be exempted from applicable Weapon/Ammunitions Fees?

    Serving personnel from Defense forces, Para military forces and Police if travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order issued by their concerned department authorizing the carriage of weapon and / or ammunition for official purpose.

    Sportsman traveling either domestic or International for a competition or representing the country, will be exempted from paying the charge levied for firearms, air gun and/or ammunition provided they fulfill the following conditions:

    • Identification document for the sportsman. Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.
    • Valid license/authorization of fire arms and ammunition.
    • Bonafide for carriage of arms and ammunition on the basis of a written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him/her for the shooting event.

    Can I carry my Liquor?

    Maximum of 5 liters with alcohol percentage between 24% and 70% in total is permitted in retail packaging as checked-in baggage. Consumption of Alcohol carried on board is not permitted on the aircraft. (Due to security restriction carriage of alcohol as hand baggage in Domestic flight is prohibited). A passenger may carry Alcohol if purchased from Duty Free shops if travelling on International flights. Same should be accompanied with the bill.

    Can I Pre-Purchase Excess Baggage?

    Checked baggage: SpiceJet allows free checked baggage allowance of 15 kg not to exceed 158 cm in overall dimensions (L+W+H) per passenger, for all domestic bookings. From EX-IXJ and SXR, free checked-in baggage allowance is 22 kg per passenger per flight. From EX-IXJ and SXR, free checked-in baggage allowance is 22 kg per passenger per flight.

    At the Airport: Passenger(s) carrying more than the baggage allowance as mentioned above will be charged at rate of INR 100 per kg (inclusive of service tax and cess, if applicable) for first 5 kg and INR 300/kg for baggage over and above 5 kg for domestic travel only (effective from 1st July, 2016).

    Prepaid excess baggage can be booked 6 hours prior to the departure of the flight at the following rates via our website or call centre (revised rate is effective from 20th September, 2016):

    Prepaid excess baggage once purchased, cannot be cancelled in stand-alone or used partially (e.g. if one has bought 5 kg and does not want to carry any excess baggage then the same is non-cancellable OR if one has bought 5 kg and excess baggage is 4 kg then remaining 1 kg is non-transferable/non-refundable/non-reusable).
