SpiceJet wins the Champions trophy at Skylympics 2017
Bags 2 gold and 3 silver medals in the first edition of the aviation sporting event

Gurgaon, 6 March, 2017: India’s favourite airline, SpiceJet, emerged victorious at Skylympics 2017 bagging the overall Champion’s Trophy at the championship held from March 3-5 at the New Udaan Bhawan, IGI airport, New Delhi.

The Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) organized the first edition of ‘Skylympics’.

Team SpiceJet --- ‘Spice Strikers’ --- stood tall bagging the highest number of honours across categories with 2 gold and 3 silver medals across five of the six categories, which included Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Athletics and Table Tennis. 35 SpiceJetters participated in the competition.

A multi-sport event held for the first time in the history of Indian aviation, Skylympics comprised a total of 22 teams and 411 matches. Hosting six sports inclusive of Cricket, Football, Badminton, Table tennis, Volley Ball and Athletics, the event witnessed the participation of a whopping 770 players and backed by more than 50000 stakeholders in all.

SpiceJet’s HR team selected the Spice Strikers, starting from inviting nominations from employees across all departments and locations. The HR Team received a tremendous response with more than 200 applications. The elimination matches among SpiceJet employees were held on 11th and 12th January 2017 at Hari Nagar sports complex, Delhi and 42 players were selected after competing with each other for participating in this mega sport event.

Former Indian cricketer and fast bowler Zaheer Khan and former captain of the Indian national Hockey team Dhanraj Pillai were the present for the event to give away the awards to the winners.
