New Delhi/Chennai, August 29, 2012:SpiceJet Ltd, India’s preferred low fare airline, today announced expansion of its network on International route by opening of ticket booking for Madurai-Colombo services.

SpiceJet would be first airline to operate international services from newly inaugurated Madurai Airport. The commercial flights on Madurai-Colombo route will commence from September 20, 2012. The launch would further consolidate SpiceJet’s position as preferred airline for travel between India and SriLanka.

Madurai is SpiceJet’s second destination connecting Sri Lankan capital Colombo. At Present SpiceJet operates direct fights between Colombo and Chennai. SpiceJet has received required clearances from required authorities in Indian and Sri Lanka for these additional flights.

The airline would be deploying Bombardier Q400 aircraft on Madurai-Colombo route. The Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft can accommodate 78 passengers and is widely accepted as the best short-haul plane globally.

SpiceJet is working on new destinations in domestic markets as well as on international routes as the carrier has set its sights on expanding its coverage in phases. Under its expansion in the international market, SpiceJet announced this month the launch of Delhi-Kabul flight. The launch of Kabul services is a milestone for the airline as SpiceJet is the sole private Indian carrier to operate services to this country. Delhi-Kabul service started on August 14, 2012.
