SpiceJet offers a range of services for passengers who require special assistance. Contact us if you need assistance with any of the services outlined here. SpiceJet recommends that guests make their travel plans early to enable the airline to serve them better.

Any requirement for assistance/special needs must be conveyed atleast 24 hours prior to travel at 09871803333 or 1800 180 3333. The executive shall assist guests with their request accordingly.

Medical clearance by the airline may be required only when the airline has received information that the passenger:

  1. suffers from any disease, which is believed to be actively contagious and communicable;
  2. who, because of certain diseases, or incapacitation may have or develop an adverse physical condition which could have an adverse effect during flight and on safety and emergency evacuation procedures
  3. would require medical attention and / or special equipment to maintain their health during the flights
  4. there exists a possibility of medical condition aggravated during or because of the flight

Safety regulations stipulate that passengers with additional needs may not be seated at emergency exit rows.

Incubators are not permitted on board Spicejet flights due to restrictions within the aircraft.

special needs:

+ Carriage of Wheelchairs (Guests with Limited Mobility & Senior Citizens)

SpiceJet carries wheelchair guests free of cost subject to advance booking and availability. There is a limit to the wheelchair inventory per flight hence guests are requested to request for the same at the time of booking or a minimum of 24 hours prior to the flight departure

Guests requiring wheelchair assistance may be classified into the following categories:

  • senior citizens
  • guests who are not self reliant or guests with permanently reduced mobility
  • guests temporarily incapacitated by illness/ injury/requiring post operative care
  • For passengers incapacitated by illness/ injury/requiring post operative care requiring wheelchair assistance, a fit to fly certificate (issued no less than 48 hours prior to the flight departure) must be produced on the date of travel.
  • Guests who are not self reliant (capable of taking care of all their physical needs independently in-flight) must travel with a ticketed companion for assistance. In this case medical clearance must be obtained before travelling and proof in the form of a fit to fly certificate issued by a doctor must be produced on the date of travel. The issue date of the certificate must not be more than 48 hours prior to the flight departure.
  • If guests wish to use their own wheelchair at the airport, they may use it for transferring them upto the aircraft. The wheelchair will be stored in the overhead bin or under the seat (if collapsible and if size fits)
  • Manual / Collapsible Wheelchairs on all SpiceJet flights are permitted. Wheelchairs with a wet cell battery shall not be accepted. However, wheelchairs powered with non spillable battery (terminals disconnected, insulated and sealed) may be carried on SpiceJet’s flight.
+ Carriage of Visually/Hearing Impaired Guests:
  • Guests who are not self reliant (capable of taking care of all their physical needs independently in-flight) must travel with a ticketed companion for assistance.
  • SpiceJet would request visually impaired guests to check-in early for their flight (approximately 2-3 hours before flight departure) to ensure a smooth flight experience.
  • If assistance is required within the airport, please identify your needs at check-in or at the time of booking. SpiceJet will be able to extend a meet and assist service to the guest to help in boarding, deplaning and also during flight connections.
  • Visually impaired guests traveling with a guide dog should make his/her reservation via the SpiceJet Call Centre and provide us notice that a guide dog will be traveling. Please note that guide dogs for the blind may not occupy any seat. The Customer is required to bring a moisture absorbent mat to place it under the guide dog. Further, the guide dog should be properly trained, restrained and muzzled. A meet and assist service can be provided, if assistance is required at departure and on arrival.
+ Carriage of Persons Suffering from Mental Disorders or Epilepsy in Aircraft:
  • No person shall knowingly carry or permit to be carried, or connive at the carriage of, a person suffering from any mental disorder or epilepsy in any aircraft.
  • The above prohibition shall not apply if the person to be carried is certified by a registered medical practitioner to be fit to travel by air without being a risk to other passengers or to the aircraft, and in addition :
    1. has not taken or used any alcoholic drink or preparation within twelve hours of the commencement of the flight;
    2. is kept under proper sedative, if in a state of excitement, during the flight and stops en route; and
    3. is accompanied by an attendant, provided that in case he has been in a state of excitement requiring sedation within the two weeks preceding the date of commencement of the flight, he shall be accompanied by a registered medical practitioner and adequate escort who shall individually and collectively be responsible for ensuring that no alcoholic drink or preparation is taken by the person in their charge and that such person is kept suitably sedated during the flight and stops en route.
  • The fit to fly certificate must be issued at the most 48 hours prior to travel.
  • Please note that the airline will not be able to offer the emergency exit row seats.
  • If any assistance is required within the airport, please identify your needs preferably at the time of booking or check-in. The airline would be able to extend our meet and assist service to help in boarding, deplaning and also during flight connections.
+ Carriage of Stretcher Case Guests

A stretcher passenger is an ill/injured passenger who, because of their physical or mental condition, can only travel on a stretcher fitted in the aircraft. Travel on a stretcher is subject to prior approval, availability and payment of the applicable fee/fare.

Carriage of stretcher passengers on the international routes is not permitted.

Carriage of stretcher in SpiceJet flight is subject to certain restrictions as mentioned below:
  • Stretcher cases will be accepted on all flights subject to feasibility of aircraft configuration.
  • Clearance for all stretcher cases will be done by the Spicejet Chief Medical Officer and operations. There are charges associated with the carriage of stretcher passengers which may be enquired for at SpiceJet’s Guest Sales and Reservations numbers: 09871803333 and 1800 180 3333.
  • A request for accommodating stretcher case guest must be made atleast 72 hours prior to the flight departure.
  • The medical form is available here, which needs to be filled up by the patient’s treating doctor prior to booking and sent to the Spicejet Chief Medical Officer by email (custrelations@spicejet.com )or Fax (0124-3913853)
  • Only one stretcher case per flight will be permitted.
  • A maximum of 2 guests (including the treating physician) are permitted to accompany the stretcher guest.
  • The total free baggage allowances will be according to the number of seats paid. However, each guest will be allowed to carry only the single entitlement of hand baggage and personal articles.
  • Clearance from Medical Department has to be obtained.
  • Stretcher case guests and their attendants are requested to report early for their flight (at least 90 minutes prior to the flight departure).
  • The flight(s) on which the stretcher case guest is being carried, may be rescheduled for that particular day, as time would be required to fix the stretcher and necessary equipment on board the aircraft.
  • Spicejet would be responsible only for the transport of the guest by air from one sector to another. Arrangements for and cost of all equipment/ medications/accompanying medical escorts/ambulift facility etc., would have to be borne by the guest.
  • Important Notice: The distance between the cabin overhead panel and stretcher top cushion is 2 feet and the height of the stretcher from the floor is 3.39 feet. Please note that the stretcher is installed as per the manufacturer's recommendations as specified in SpiceJet engineering manual and we regret that individual requests for any alteration in installation cannot be met with.
Medical Clearance
  • Assessment by company doctor/designated doctor (in stations where company doctor is not available) just before departure may be required in certain cases, before giving final approval. This would be mentioned by the SpiceJet Medical department in the clearance accorded and communicated to the internal departments as well as to the passenger representatives. A fresh MEDA form (giving details of guest’s medical condition) on the day of travel may be asked for in selected cases. If the guest’s medical status is noted to have deteriorated, as compared to the details provided in the MEDA form, permission to fly may be refused. In all cases, the decision of the SpiceJet medical department regarding the fitness of guest to fly and the type of escort required, will be final.
  • The MEDA Form should be complete, accurately and legibly filled by the patient’s treating doctor and faxed to the chief medical officer, at least 48 hours prior to the flight. All medical details asked for must be completed. The guest must produce a certificate from his treating doctor certifying that he is fit to travel by air and is free from any contagious disease as well as a detailed medical report from the treating doctor.
  • The indemnity bond should be completed and signed by the patient/his relative on reaching the airport.
  • After confirming fit to fly status, the doctor on duty will certify and fax the MEDA form back to the departure station.
  • Reporting for Stretcher Case guests is 1 hour prior to departure of the flight.
  • Relatives and guests must also request their treating physicians to refer to the 'GUIDELINES' printed on the reverse of the MEDA Form.
  • Due to security reasons, personal oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, etc., will not be carried on board the aircraft.
  • Cabin Staff are trained in first aid only and are not expected to render special nursing care to critically ill cases. Cabin crews are not permitted to administer injections or open physician kits which contain life saving drugs and equipments. These kits can be opened only under instructions of Registered Medical Practitioners.
  • No services such as urine bags, pampers, etc., will be provided by SpiceJet. Guests will have to make their own arrangements if they wish to carry any of these items.
  • No medical support will be provided by SpiceJet. The guest will have to be accompanied by a medical escort (doctor, with minimum MBBS) or paramedical escort (registered nurse) or non medical escort as per the decision of the medical department.
  • Ambulift Facility will be provided by the airline, however, subject to availability of the same, being provided by the Airport Operator. However, guest or his relatives may liaise with the respective Airport Manager for this facility well in advance.
  • Ground and Transit oxygen arrangements are to be made by the guest in conjunction with the Airport manager or ground staff in liaison with AAI.
Carriage of Life Saving Equipment on Board for Guests Requiring Medical Assistance
  • Carriage of Life Saving and other Medical Equipment on Board will be permitted only after getting clearances from Engineering, Security Departments.
  • Manufacturers’ technical details regarding equipment, safety precautions if any, procurement source, manufacturers contact details etc should be submitted at least 72hrs prior to flight.
  • All equipment on board must be secure.
  • The Treating Physician should give a certificate stating that:
    • All equipments are battery operated (dry, non-spillable, sealed batteries only).
    • The battery does not need to be recharged in-flight (no recharging facilities are available onboard)
    • The equipment is life-saving and will be required in-flight.
    • It will not emit any electromagnetic radiation which could interfere with the communication/navigation of the aircraft or aircraft equipment.
    • There is an adequate supply of fully charged batteries, i.e., sufficient for 150% of maximum expected flight duration. Additional batteries must be packed as per IATA DGR.
  • Guidelines for carrying life-saving equipment on-board to be followed.
  • Ventilators and personal oxygen cylinders/oxygen concentrators are not permitted on the aircraft.

special care:

+ Carriage of Unaccompanied Minors:
  • SpiceJet will accept children aged between 5-12 years traveling alone as unaccompanied children.
  • SpiceJet does not charge any fee for this service.
  • It is mandatory to produce photo identification at the airport for all unaccompanied minors.
  • Guests should complete and sign an Unaccompanied Minor Form at the departing airports, we will take charge of their custody and on arrival we require the designated recipient to show identification and sign for the UNM's custody.
  • During the trip the children will be escorted by the airlines staff throughout the airport processes and seated in the aircraft where our In-flight personnel will keep a watchful eye on them.
  • The UNMR will be handed over at the destination only to the authorized individual specified in the UNM form. Photo ID of personnel authorized to take handover of UNMR will be checked.
  • Guests above the age of 12 will be expected to travel alone.
+ Carriage of Expectant Mothers:
  • Expectant mothers may travel up to and including the 27 weeks of their pregnancy, and will be accepted between the 28 to 35 weeks only if they are in possession of a doctor's certificate confirming the stage of their pregnancy and stating that they are fit to fly.
  • For 28 weeks up to and including 32 weeks duration of pregnancy-The fit to fly certificate must be issued (by the guest's attending gynecologist/MBBS doctor) at the most 72 hours prior to departure. This certificate will have to be presented at check-in when requested.
  • For 33 weeks up to and including 35 weeks duration of pregnancy -The fit to fly certificate must be issued (by the guest's attending gynecologist/MBBS doctor) at the most 24 hours prior to departure. This certificate will have to be presented at check-in when requested.
  • Expectant mothers 36 weeks and above are not allowed to fly on SpiceJet flights.
+ Carriage of Infant Passengers:
  • SpiceJet carries infants accompanied by adult passengers subject to availability of inventory. "Infants" are classified as children between 7 days to 2 years of age on the date of travel. Proof of age is required, so please carry the Infant's Passport/valid ID (birth certificate) for inspection at the airport on the date of travel. Infants under seven (7) days will only be accepted upon medical authorization from a physician.
  • Guests traveling with an infant need to book the infant inventory by paying the requisite fee when booking a ticket. If the guest has forgotten to book the infant they may call the SpiceJet Sales & Reservation Centre with the reservation number and the staff shall assist the guest with the request.
  • Each infant must be accompanied by one adult passenger. Each adult may carry only single infant due to safety norms of the airline.
  • Infants will not be charged any basic fare.
  • Infants will not be allotted/occupy a seat and are not entitled to a separate baggage allowance.
