Goa

Goa is a former Portuguese colony with a very rich history, with a unique mix of native and Portuguese cultures and architecture that attracts tourists from all over India and the world. It is visibly different from the rest of India, owing to Portuguese rule which isolated it from the rest of India for over 450 years. The hub of tourism in India, Goa, with its swaying palms, white sands and sparkling waters is a place with irresistible charms. Panaji, Goa's capital since 1843, is among the most pleasant Indian capitals. Most people use it as a link to old Goa or to the beaches.

Shopping

Your visit to Goa is not complete unless you take back a souvenir. Goa is such a colourful state that you won't be left thinking as to what to buy in Goa, but where to shop may be an issue! With so many shopping choices available, it is really hard to know where to shop! Goa is full of local markets and beach shacks that sell everything and anything under the sun. Global items come in amazing diversity specially at the night markets of North Goa.

One Goan unique product is that of hand-painted ceramics. If you are a book-lover, Reading Habit, at Campal on the way to Miramar Beach with a wide variety of books is just the right place for you. Some of the best places for shopping in Goa are at Mapusa and Anjuna. The Aparant network of outlets managed by the State-run Goa Handicrafts network is good value-for-money and is typically 'Goan' shopping.
